All the revolutionary piece of technology/software comes under the open-source. Isn’t it great that everyone can access source code and modify and create software versions based on customer needs?
Indeed, all of this would be impossible if there were not people who encourage people and companies to leverage the power of the open-source.
Open Source
Now, the question is, how did the open-source word pop out? There will be some person or group behind it who did it, right?
I watched an old documentary of Revolution of OS dated around 2001.
This documentary beautifully explained how we came to cross all of the open sources and defined what it means by it.
I got to see who were the people behind it. Obviously, the open-source initiative was not straightforward.
Companies were against it because they wanted to provide their source code. I remember back in childhood, I used to think it would be great if I could understand and access Windows source code. It will open new doors for me. I can add the feature I want and remove what I don’t.
I guess these companies didn’t want that to happen because somehow, I understood Microsoft tried to create a market monopoly.
I don’t want to give a spoiler by letting you know directly how open source came into the picture. Instead, I suggest you go through the same documentary. I think it will definitely be worth it.
Seeing how things turned out great for the people who cared about free software was fantastic.
How Mozilla came into picture?
One of the vital pieces from the above video is how the Mozilla foundation formed. How Netscape made their source code open source.
